‘Macromea’

Cast Glass, found lenses, photograph prints on canvas and velum, Steel mounting segments. 

Glass castings: 4 panels at 24” x 12” and 3 panels at 30” x 10”.

Lenses stand at 48” and 80” tall. Six in total.

Images range from 5” x 6” to 24” x 18”. eighty-four in total

Frequently, we offer a perspective of ourselves that is a manufactured version of how we imagine others see us. We allow others to view us through strategically placed lenses: to demonstrate our charisma, our sexuality, our strengths. These offer a satisfying view but, in fact, are a barrier dividing the viewer from the reality of who we are. Rare viewers, who invest deeper and are willing to explore the spaces between, will see vulnerability unavailable to most. This work is about interacting with each other in the most intimate context.

This installation is built in a modular format. Images are wall mounted on steel rods and magnets; rods are various lengths, some images are flush with the wall or at maximum, hang 10” from the wall. The images are silk screened on canvas or printed on velum and mounted in a layered effect. Images should be lit from various angles to enable shadows to pass through velum on to the wall and other images, creating an additional layer to the images.
